Puppy Mill Rescues Overcome with Curiosity at Their Very First Blankets
A group of newly rescued dogs experienced their first blankets in touching moments at National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR) in Peyton, Colorado. The rescue traditionally gives their new arrivals blankets and for many of the dogs it’s the first time they’ve ever seen a bed let alone a soft blanket.
NMDR shared a heartwarming video of the event and wrote, “Tonight, we gave our newly rescued dogs their very first blankets—a simple gesture, but for them, it’s a whole new beginning. The joy and curiosity on their faces as they experience this new comfort is truly heartwarming. From uncertain and scared to cozy and curious, these first blankets symbolize the start of their new lives, filled with warmth and care.”
“These blankets aren’t just fabric; they’re promises of better days ahead,” NMDR continued. The dogs all tentatively sniff the blankets before deciding to touch them, but they all eventually do!
Blankets aren’t the only new things the rescued dogs receive. They also get enrichment through a wide variety of rehabilitations. In some cases it’s as simple as giving puppies cardboard and packing paper.
“Forget machines; we’ve got an energetic crew that specializes in turning cardboard and paper into confetti,” NMDR shared. “Our unofficial puppy-run recycling program isn’t just about shredding; it’s a fantastic way for our pups to get some brain stimulation while they wait for their forever homes. Plus, it’s eco-friendly and adorable to watch!”
National Mill Dog Rescue takes in hundreds to thousands of dogs every year. In 2021 alone they rescued over a thousand dogs. The rescue organization asks for support. “Please consider donating to help us continue providing for these amazing dogs as they start their journeys to finding loving homes. Every little bit helps wrap them in comfort and love!” To see how you can help support NMDR visit their website.
