A dog dumped outside of a Dunkin Donuts with a note is on her way to a better life no thanks to the person who was caught on camera allegedly abandoning his dog.
The man apparently dropped the dog in the parking lot of the Dunkin’ Donuts store on St. Francis Drive in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before going inside and buying himself a coffee. A note left on the dog said, “I’m free. I’m having babies.”
Surveillance video captured footage of a man opening the door of a van and letting out the dog. The man then went inside the store to order a cup of coffee, police said. The dog followed him to the front door, but when the man returned to his vehicle he left the dog behind.
“On December 26, 2017 at approximately 07:26 AM City Animal Services received a call stating a man left a dog in the parking lot of Dunkin Donuts located at 1085 S. St. Francis.”
“The dog had a note left on it stating ‘I’m free I’m having babies’. Upon Animal Services arrival surveillance footage was provided showing a man in a dark colored Chevy Venture style van. The male opened his door and let the dog out of the vehicle with the note attached to its neck. The man then proceeded to go into Dunkin Donuts and order a cup of coffee. The dog followed the man from the vehicle to the front door of the business but was ignored by the man.”
Santa Fe Police
“Footage was not available of the man driving up to or driving away from the business so a license plate was not obtained. Animal Services would like any help in identifying the man seen in the video.”
“At this time it is unknown if the dog is in fact in early stages of pregnancy or if she is suffering from a uterine infection, she is under the care of licensed veterinarians at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and will be under hold and observation.”

If identified, the man could face misdemeanor charges of abandonment or neglect of an animal.
The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society also updated everyone on the status of the dog on their Facebook page and write:
“We have received a number of inquiries about the dog we took in this week that was rescued outside Dunkin’ Donuts in Santa Fe.
While authorities continue to seek out the person that abandoned her there, we have good news to report.
After a thorough examination by our doctors, she is stable and doing well. We do not yet know whether or not she is pregnant at this time, but we will be monitoring her over the next few days.
“One of the most iconic images of the West is a horse and their companion riding off into the horizon. It’s a scene most celebrated in movies. But today, it’s the story of Jackie, our “Dunkin’ Donuts” dog, and an unlikely connection that spreads from the snowy peaks of New Mexico to the rolling hills of Kentucky.
Animal Shelter & Humane Society
“A couple of weeks ago someone in Kentucky saw our social media post on Jackie. That person, who was closely following developments of the dog, reached out to her sister, Rebecca, who was vacationing in Colorado, but lived in Albuquerque, told her all about Jackie’s story.
“Needless to say, Rebecca’s journey back home involved a very special stop at the Sant Fe Animal Shelter. Like the great western movies of the past, our hero came to save the day and rode off with her new partner for life.”
Animal Shelter & Humane Society
“Today, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter is home to may more adoptable animals, just like Jackie.
“While most don’t garner national attention, they all deserve their ride into the sunset.
Are you ready to become our next hero?”
