A dog found buried alive was miraculously saved. Star was found by chance by animal welfare officers who happened to be in the area. When they found her, she had been bound, shot and buried in the ground. Her story touched animal lovers around the world.
Star’s former owner, Alfred Vella, was located and confessed to charges of animal cruelty (Star was rescued in 2011). He received a sentence of 3 months in jail and a fine of €10,000. He claimed he had shot her because she was old. Star was 10 years old.
Although Star looked like she was on the road to recovery, she passed away shortly after her rescue due to complications from her injuries. She died in loving care.
